#3 Santa’s Magical Sleigh Postcard

On Christmas day, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer got sick and spread the cold to all the other reindeers! Luckily, Santa got another animal to do the job. Guess who got picked? The Hoppy Hippo! He was strong and mighty for the job. Santa got him dressed up and sprinkle magic fairy dust on his feet. Now the hippo could fly in the air! But wait, how does Santa know his ways? Follow the steps and draw more details for Santa to navigate his way.

Materials:

  • Drawing Paper
  • Color pencils
  • Pencils + eraser

Follow these steps to draw your post card:

1. Begin with a border for the frame. I chose red lines to make the postcard more vibrant.

2. On the top left corner, draw an animal you wish to pull the sled. It could be a dinosaur, a reindeer, a husky or anything you want. Draw some light blue magic fairy dust near the feet. (You do not need to have an animal. It could be blank because maybe your sleigh is the newest model Z that can self-drive).

3. Draw the sleigh that has Santa on it. I started with the middle sleigh bar and then work my way to the sled on the bottom. Then I added Santa’s face and then drew his body. I added an elf to do the map reading along with lots of presents behind the elf. Then, of course you would need a navigator to deliver all the presents. I drew a box in front of Santa that had arrow on the screen.

4. In the middle of the postcard, I wrote MERRY CHRISTMAS in calligraphy style and drew ornaments on the top. Remember to use different color pencils for each section. This way the drawing is more interesting and you do not need to retrace again!

5. On the rest of the postcard, I drew border lines of states with light brown color pencil. I also drew some cities and tiny houses. I used blue color pencil and drew little icons of trees, houses, electric towers. My son even added electric power lines that cut through Santa’s route. I said “YOU ARE GOING TO GET SANTA ELECTROCUTED!!!!” He just kept laughing and drew even more power lines…

7. EXTRA TIPS: Write a message on the back. Draw a post stamp, write down an address, and a brief message to Santa. Now we have a postcard!! Yay!
