If you could have a dream room, where would it be? I want a perfectly soft bed and unlimited space to play! Maybe the room could be in the clouds? Each cloud could be a designated space of your choice!
Follow my steps to draw a perfect room in the cloud!
You will need these materials:
· Markers /color pencils / pencils / erasers
· White Multi-media paper (9 x 12 inches)
Let's start with a character first!
#1. Characters
Near the center of the paper, draw an animal. I drew a cat playing a car on a cloud. The body of the animal is covered in the cloud because he is laying on the cloud as he plays. Color as you draw. Use light blue to color the bottom part of the cloud to suggest shading. Do not color the whole cloud since the cloud is white.
In the space above the cat, I drew a rabbit sitting in another cloud. He has a hot tea and a basket full of stars. Do you know what is he doing? He is catching stars with a fishing pole. I color a few light gray lines at the bottom shapes of the rabbit to suggest shadows. Since the rabbit is white, I do not color the rabbit, only color the lines near the bottom borders. In my other drawing, my rabbit has a sunglass and he has a fishing pole with a stinky sock. The smell is so bad that it has green wiggly lines around the sock.
#2. Decorations for the room
What other things do you want to have in your room? I want a plant and some light bulbs. I have a small cloud at the top right corner of the paper and a big cloud at the top of the paper. I have two light bulbs hanging from the top cloud. What other items would you love to have in your room? A desk? A refrigerator for your food? Maybe some toys?
What other objects would be really cool? How about a flying balloon that can keep your items floating in the air? A basket full of water that turns into rain or snow. How do you get from cloud to cloud? Maybe you need a ladder that you can climb from one cloud to another. Draw with your imagination! Since the sky gets dark and you would need some light sources, why not draw some glowing stars! I have some yellow stars and a purple star.
#3. Background color
Lastly, shade the top part of the sky with blue color pencil and slowly light up your pencil stroke when you color towards the middle of the paper. Use a darker blue color pencil at the very top if the color was too light, and use a lighter blue color pencil for the lower sky.
#4. DIFFERENT STYLES
You can also only draw in pencil shades. See my other example. Use only pencil for all the shadings. Shade the corner of the sky too.
This was a fun drawing for me and my students! Do you have other ideas I did not think of? I love to see your drawing! Do not forget to print out the reference.
